Introduction
Getting your P-license (暫准駕駛執照) is the start of independent driving. MTC rents to P-license holders on the same terms as full-licence drivers, from compact hatchbacks to 7-seaters, with every trip insured.
1. Can P-License Holders Rent Cars?
✅ Yes.
MTC rents to P-license holders with the same rental process as a full licence. Every trip is insured, with no extra insurance fee for new drivers.

2. Requirements for P-License Renters

Verification is done once in the app and is usually complete within 24 hours.
3. Insurance
New drivers are insured on the same terms as everyone else:

- 💰 Your cost is capped — if there's an accident, the most you pay is HK$40,000, or HK$60,000 if there's both damage to the car and a third-party claim.

4. Important Considerations
(1) Display Your P Plates
Hong Kong law requires P plates at the front and rear of the car. If you need a P-plate magnet on the car, contact us after booking and our staff can arrange it.
(2) Speed and Lane Rules
Probationary drivers must keep to 70 km/h or below and stay out of the offside (rightmost) lane on expressways with 3 or more lanes. There is no passenger limit in a private car; that rule applies to motorcycles and motor tricycles.
(3) MTC Hatchbacks
Hatchbacks are the easiest class for new drivers:

5. How to Get Your Car
🚗 Three ways for P-license drivers to get a car:
- Request a car - Request via app and a car is brought to your chosen station or street meter (soonest about an hour, subject to availability).
- Station Pickup - Check app for available cars at MTC stations and pickup immediately.
- Scan at the car - find a car parked nearby in the app, then scan its QR code at the car to start.

Q: What car does MTC have?

Q: How do I enter MTC carparks?
A: MTC stations use LPR (License Plate Recognition) - simply drive in and out, no Octopus needed.
Q: Can I drive to Macau?
A: Cross-border travel is not supported. MTC vehicles are for use within Hong Kong only.
